We were to spend two nights at the hotel to relax and ended up leaving a day early not wanting to spend any more time at the Montebello. We have young kids and went to bed early only to have someone knocking on our door after 9 pm to offer us water?!? We have never seen a pool in this state at any hotel let alone a fairmont! horrible sounding speakers blasting inappropriate/obnoxious music
the dirty towel hamper was rolled into the grass filled with a mountain of dirty towels whatever didn’t fit was thrown in the grass the garbage containers were over flowing there was a black rim of scum marking where the water level should have been filled to the pool water level was below the first step and very cloudy the tables all seemed to have drink residue with wasps buzzing cups/straws and fruit from drinks all around pool deck The most shocking was the state of the outdoor pool. The room was very outdated but beyond that the beds were very old and the bedskirt was sagging on one side of the bed, the curtains were hanging crooked over the window, the hairdryer barely worked and looked like it was 30 yrs+ old, the carpet in room was loose and rippled, the wall paper in the bathroom was ripped and the bath robe had a hole in the arm. So many details were over looked which a shock at a Fairmont property. The overall experience was very disappointing. As I mentioned above this hotel needs a lot of TLC (tender loving care). The main area of the hotel as you enter has a very old and not appealing smell, it unfortunately feels like entering a very dark and musty dungeon. I asked for a room that was remodelled and I’m truly happy I did, my room was very nice compared to that of our friends that stayed in the old section of the hotel. I’m not one to ever write negative reviews but I need to say that this stay was not one I truly enjoyed. I can’t say anything negative about the staff they were all very nice and very helpful always with big smiles on their faces. My supper was tasteless and not appealing at all nor was out breakfast buffet the next morning. It desperately needs a lot of attention on the inside, it was perhaps once a beautiful hotel but unfortunately it no longer is. My husband and I love going to the Fairmont Hotels, but the Montebello Fairmont should not be in the Fairmont family.
